Classical/Chamber Music in Tok?

Sitka Summer Music Festival

Sitka Summer Music Festival

A friend of mine is the Executive Director of the Sitka Summer Music Festival.

She’d love to hear from Tokites about their interest in bringing a chamber music concert to Tok.

Here is her note:

From Roberta Rinehart:

I would love to hear from some of the Classical Music fans in Tok!

As the Executive Director of the Sitka Summer Music Festival, I get to bring world-class internationally acclaimed musicians in from around the globe to remote areas of Alaska — if your community would like to host a concert, that would be wonderful.

Please post your thoughts about this idea as comments to this blog, and be assured that they will get to the Sitka Summer Music Festival.

What do you think? A classical music concert in Tok?

  1. Bringing Classical Music artists to Tok is a worthy goal. I believe there would be a small but enthusiastic turnout. It is not often that remote places receive the variety in the arts that more polulated communities enjoy. As a music artist who has found my roots in American folk music my attendance would be to broaden my perspective in learning how the deeper disciplined and formal presenters achieve a sense of connectivity with their audiences.

    Aliza,

    I am sure that my wife would be more than happy to attend a classical concert.

    My family and I would certainly attend any classical concert offered in Tok.
    Since we never seem to be able to make it all the way to Fairbanks to enjoy the Symphony, a local concert would be greatly appreciated.
    I’m sure a lot of people in Tok feel the same way we do.

    The Sitka Summer Music Festival has become a world class event because:
    -there’s alot of folks who live there with culture, class, and deeeeeep pockets;
    – Sitka is on the map for people with deeeep pockets;
    – It’s half way between Seattle and Anchorage. Alaska Airlines has daily flights in and out of there daily.
    – The Centennial Hall has a pretty awesome backdrop, if you know what I mean.
    – Rich folks like to play in Sitka.
    But, all that said, I bet if you called Gordon Wright down in Girdwood and offered to cook him his favorite meal, he might be able to throw together a nice little chamber music arrangement!
